I have made abstract paintings for a long time, working intuitively using a push me-pull you process of additive and subtractive mark making. My figurative work comes out of the same intuition-based practice. I begin with a visceral exploration of color and texture. Then I add or remove paint, collage, or erase into graphite; revising and editing the imagery that naturally emerges. The figures come from the same subconscious files as the abstract works—memories, dreams, and the human stories that filter through from the unquiet world.
I hold a B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. My paintings have been shown throughout New England in group and solo shows and are held in private collections throughout the U.S. I live in Northport, Maine.
